Restaurant Review: Bombay Baking Co., J.W. Marriott Hotel, Mumbai.
Hey from EL The Cook!
We were in Mumbai this past weekend and we sure did catch up on the delectable food scene in the city!
The best place to start would be in the delicious world of bakery and patisserie!
We checked in the impressive J.W. Marriott Hotel in Juhu, Mumbai and sampled some of the Bombay Baking Co's splendid dishes.
QUICHE LORRAINE
A thick wedge of smooth pastry carefully browned on the top gives an amazing first look at the dish.
A bite reveals the warm smokiness of the bacon and richness of the swiss cheese. The roasted onions add a comforting body to the quiche!
The fruits add a freshness which cuts through the texturally rich flavours..
The crispy ends gives a lovely crunch to end to a beautiful dish!
GRILLED HAM & CHEESE SANDWICH
Between 2 grilled slices of freshly baked olive focaccia bread is sandwiched fine shavings of ham layered between gruyère and mozzarella cheese.
A taste of this sandwich brings smokiness of the ham to the palette. That stringy mozzarella cheese and that sweet but slightly salty gruyère adds an uncanny depth to the dish.
A sandwich with bags of flavour and a smoky punch!
LEMON MERINGUE TART
A delight to look at, lemon meringue tarts have always been our soft spot!
However, we were not impressed with this tart. The lemon curd lacks acidity and the meringue is overpoweringly sweet.
The sweetness is amplified by the tart, the inner side of which has been coated in white chocolate, making the tart almost impenetrable.
What should be a standout dessert is ruined by the lack of balance of flavours and textures.
BERRY DANISH PASTRY
Danish pastry is one of our favourite desserts!
Viennoiseries as they are usually called consist of conventional puff pastry made richer with the addition of eggs, milk and butter.
The Bombay Baking Co. does this one spectacularly! The laminated crust of pastry crackles gently under the pressure of your fork.
The gentle taste melts in your mouth as you graduate to the taste of the fresh berry filling.
Delicious!
The Bombay Baking Co. offers some truly delightful bakeries and pastries.
We did order the savouries first and they did take frightfully long to arrive (25 minutes!), but its worth the wait.
A few dishes still can do better!
The pastry chefs here, truly pour out their hearts through flour and sugar making quintessential breakfast classics!
A must visit for the breakfast foodie and the cafe addict!
