Restaurant Review: Trikaya, Bavdhan, Pune

Hey from EL The Cook!

We heard that Trikaya, located in the Bavdhan suburb of Pune, serves up some superb oriental cuisine and boasts of some amazing ambiance too!

For eager oriental cuisine lovers be warned that this restaurant does take some time to reach, at least 45 minutes from the main city.

Located on the rooftop of Aditya Shagun Mall, Trikaya has a classy & romantic ambiance. Large statues and a fountain greet you on your way in. With both indoor and outdoor seating, the layout of the place is well designed, well lit and perfect for a dinner for love-birds!

Here's what we ordered..

After a long drive, we were looking to have a few dashing cocktails, however, none of the single malt whiskies were available, so no whisky based cocktails could be done. We were recommended to have vodka cocktails instead.

We were very disappointed, Trikaya has a fabulous cocktail menu, sadly none were available. The staff also seemed clueless about the cocktail menu, hardly apologizing for the non-availability of items on the menu.

CLEAR CHICKEN WANTON SOUP

After a disappointing start, we decided to go for a standard order wanton soup. The clarity of the fluid is good. The flavours are balanced.
The wantons are beautifully cooked, the chicken is flavoured well. All in all the soup keeps you well warmed.

SMOKED RED CHILLI CHICKEN

This poultry dish is super salivating. The chicken is full of that delicious smoky flavour, marinated in a spicy red shezwan. Notes of garlic ring out loud and clear, the veggies compliment the rich marinade well.
The portion size is also sizable, meant for at least 3 people.
Brilliantly executed dish!

BURNT GARLIC JASMINE RICE

This is a recommended item by many foodies who visit Trikaya, however we found it average. The rice is strewn with chewy bits of burnt garlic, giving a punchy garlicky flavour.
There are absolutely no hints of jasmine, which is a disappointment.

                          CHICKEN CHILLI WITH BASIL

This is a dish we were looking forward to. An odd combination of herbs with poultry, this dish is extremely well thought of and has brilliant flavour pairings.
The earthy basil, compliments the garlicky sauce and well seasoned chicken in subtle ways. When paired with the burnt garlic jasmine rice, the flavours really shine through.
A well executed dish, very tasty!

Trikaya, featured as best oriental restaurant for 2 years in a row by the Times Food Guide, does disappoint when it comes to its selection of cocktails.

The food is good but could be a whole lot better, with some dishes such as the Chili Basil Chicken impressing us most.

The ambiance is par-excellence with you stepping in the place; instantly transporting you to a calm oriental setting.

Visit Trikaya, for a calming oriental experience!
