Hey everyone! Today El the Cook, takes you on a tour of breakfast nostalgia. There are some places in Pune, that you can't miss and Vohuman Cafe is one of them, which has you thinking about their food, weeks after you have visited!

Owned by Hormazd Uncle, this place has been serving up the quintessential Irani breakfast for the last 37 years! His snappy sense of humor, thick spectacles and booming voice makes him the soul of his restaurant. He prefers a Luna moped even though he owns a Mercedes Benz!

A word of advice, Vohuman Cafe barely seats 16 tables and the usual weekend morning rush, means waiting for 15-20 minutes for a table.  It is also not cholesterol friendly, with butter and cheese used extensively. Lighting is dingy although there is an odd Irani charm about it!

Bun Maska with Special Chai (Tea)

The freshness of the bun brightens up your mornings! The amount of butter used is sinful, but it brings the bread to life. The special chai is flavored with spices like ginger and cardamom, breaking the rich taste of the bread and butter

Double Cheese Omelette 

Truly a specialty here is the Double Cheese Omelette.. The gigantic pieces of cheese within the omelette melt slowly before you creating a feeling of instant salivation! The omelette is well spiced with chili, pepper and a generous dash of coriander. One just wonders how the cheese doesn't melt while it is being prepared! A delightfully rich omelette packing punch of taste!

   

Cheese Toast

Indulge in this superb looking toast, in which the cheese pieces and the toast are of the same thickness! The flavor and texture of this dish is a little off balance as the cheese dominates the taste buds. But giving you one cheesy experience!

Jam Maska

As if your breakfast didn't already spill over to lunch, Here's the Jam Maska, oozing with mixed fruit jam! The amount of butter and jam used, dwarf the taste of the wonderfully fresh bread. Spilling over the sides of the bread, the jam is rich and full of flavor.

The hit of the special chai is needed to break the over-sweet taste of the dish.
