In Search of Fondue : Moshes Cafe, Koregaon Park, Pune.

Hey from EL The Cook!

Where have all the Fondue places disappeared in Pune?

Fondue is still the buzz word when Swiss food is on your mind. However great fondue places like The Swiss Cheese Garden and Cafe Mangii have all but shut shop.

In the hunt for a restaurant which serves good fondue, we stumbled upon a place called Moshe's Cafe boasting an exclusive fondue menu, we couldn't help but visit.

Heres how our fondue experience went!

Fondue with Roast Garlic, Jalapeño & Mushroom

The rather enchanting looking fondue is served up in an earthen pot with a side of quaint looking bread.

It does take your breath away at first glance with the rustic feel of a swiss village.

However the magic vanishes there.

The melting pot of cheese, isn't cheese at all. It is a floury, milky sauce with a runny consistency. There is no usage of fondue cheese.

The roast garlic dimly flavours the sauce. The portobello mushrooms impart a meaty texture, but are too large and over-powering in taste. The Jalapeño peppers add a earthy flavour, but are overcooked and lack a peppery punch.

Stumbling through half the bowl, the surprising happens, when the flame from the candle under the pot starts boiling the now almost in-edible sauce. Like an angry volcano, the dish oozes a bad odour as well.

My advice is to avoid ordering a fondue, if you visit.

Moshe's Cafe, boasts a fondue menu, but serves up a dismal dish. It leaves you with a numbing feeling of having to question the whole "fondue experience"

Swiss food encompasses comfort and often entails a passionate meal. However, Moshe's needs to live up to the fondue experience if it intends to serve this amazing dish.
