Restaurant Review : Mad House Grill,Pune.
Hello from EL the Cook!
It has been long since I've reviewed a restaurant! Today EL the Cook reviews Pune's only "steakhouse" Mad House Grill.
An established and famous steak house, they are known for serving up some of Pune's best steaks.
Frequented by Pune's elite, Mad House Grill is owned by the young, vibrant, successful entrepreneur, Mayuri Kapasi. She strongly believes in a hands on approach to her restaurant. She has vast experience in food and hospitality and uses this with sublime perfection through her restaurant.
The ambiance of Mad House Grill is light, relaxed and cozy. The simple wooden chairs and quirky posters give a post modern feel. A continually innovative menu keeps this place upbeat about the latest trends in meat and steaks.
The staff is courteous but struggle to describe a steak properly. When asked if I would get a "medium rare" steak, he said it would be kaccha (raw). This was a complete turn-off and I ordered a well done steak, just because of the security of cooked meat.
The look of the menu is "Christmassy" and does not appeal to the meat-lover in mid-April.
Here's what I tried.
Chicken Tangy Mushroom
The chicken is well cooked with a creamy mushroom sauce and a hint of lemon zest. The mashed potatoes & spinach compliment the dish well. The side of garlic bread though is dry and heavy and something, the plate could do without.
The dish is good but not outstanding, it could do with more refined flavoring.
Steak In Red Wine Sauce
Inviting to look at, this dish is a delight to taste. The well-done steak is made beautifully. The caramelized onion and the sauce work like a charm. The house salad served with this dish is the true hero, the zesty orange tones break the monotony of the steak and mash. It truly is an out-of-this-world dressing. However, I would have liked the lettuce crunchier.
The let downs of this dish are the garlic bread, dry and unappetizing. The mash is average and could incorporate a lot more flavor. The main issue with this dish though is the chefs obsession with whole black pepper, which overpowers the sauce substantially . I wanted a red wine sauce however what I got was a pepper sauce. This was unnerving.
Mad House Grill, a cozy steakhouse, tucked away in Lane 8 of the busy & bustling Koregaon Park, Pune. Enthralling meat lovers from all over town, Mad House has earned its reputation as a great steakhouse.
However, finer elements such as staff training, and refining each element on the plate is required to amp up their steak prowess.
