Restaurant Review : Prego, Westin Pune
PREGO, WESTIN HOTEL, PUNE
Hello! Wishes for the best New Year 2015 everyone!
Today EL the Cook reviews Prego, a fine dining authentic Italian Restaurant located in the Westin Hotel, Pune.
Chef Guiseppe, the head chef, believes strongly in traditional Italian cuisine and simplicity is his mantra. Seafood is his specialty and his menu reflects this. For vegans this place is really good for their eggplant and artichoke based dishes. Their variety of cheeses is blended well into the meals and the Chef's knowledge of flavors is truly mind-blowing.
The staff at Prego is well educated about their menu and do well in recommending wines which are so important with Italian cuisine. Worth a mention is their claps in unison when a kitchen dish or plate breaks, cutting the awkwardness in the restaurant, a truly different experience.
A commendable decor is complemented by the cutlery of citrus and grey tones & only accentuates the food in front of you.
The main course has its pros and cons. The "orecchiette alla pugliese" was a bit too al dente and had to be sent back to the kitchen to get it cooked to my liking but the sauce was well textured and was cooked with love.
The "Salmone in crosta" features a Norwegian salmon fillet en papillote (baked in paper) which was really seasoned and cooked to perfection. The sides of baked potatoes and sauteed vegetables was also good. The only drawback was the fillet of Salmon wasn't served en papillote rather in a foil which was disappointing.
The wine list is quite spectacular, the Pinot Noir categories of wine tingle the taste buds with the brilliant seafood.
Prego, in short lives up to its name as an authentic Italian Restaurant in Pune, do visit if you want a true taste of Italy!
