Restaurant Review Dravida's Bistro, Dhole Patil Road, Pune
Hey from EL The Cook!
Today we review, one of the newest South Indian restaurants to the Pune food scene, Dravidas Bistro!
Striving to be purely organic and growing their ingredients on their own, Dravidas Bistro sets itself apart with its customizable South-Indian menu.
"Bistro" a term dedicated to relaxed European cafe is confidently used by 3 friends who decided to start the place. "Dravidas" implies South Indian, and tying the two terms together has payed off!
"Bistro" a term dedicated to relaxed European cafe is confidently used by 3 friends who decided to start the place. "Dravidas" implies South Indian, and tying the two terms together has payed off!
However with Dravidas Bistro, the relaxed seating defines the restaurant. The contemporary feel of the place can be felt through the trendy slate wall, explaining the menu in detail.
The tables are simply decorated with a large earthen jug for water. Very rustic but yet modern.
The menu is also informative, providing choices of diabetic, healthy, high protein foods.
Here's what we ordered..
BUILD YOUR OWN DOSA:
Size: Medium
Base: Uttapam
Filling: Mixed Vegetables
Spread: Red Chutney
The uttapam, is laced with a freshly cut onion and tomato is a romance of color and flavour on the plate. The batter is light and airy. The katori of sambar uplifts the uttapam with flavours of curry leaves and tamarind.
The side of coconut chutney is fresh and smooth to taste, whereas the red chutney is spicy, which compliments the freshly prepared ghee.
POORI MASALA:
Whenever we visit a South Indian restaurant, we really love a taste of theatre provided with the super-sized pooris!
Dravidas Bistro helped us relive those memories as well..Gorgeous airy poories are served up with a side of a rich potato masala. The katori really brings the flavours of South-India like turmeric, mustard, and cumin to the pallette and shine through.
Size: Medium
Base: Rava
Filling: Onion
The portion size being quite small, we decided to order another dish, the onion rava dosa.
We were however a bit taken aback when the rava dosa was filled with raw onion, when our tastebuds are quite used to the onions being incorporated into the batter and then cooked. The rava batter was fresh, but the taste of raw onions overpowered the lightness of the batter.
DEGREE COFFEE:
What is a South Indian restaurant without its coffee? After a sumptuous meal, the taste buds are usually refreshed by a hit of strong coffee.
Dravidas serves just that. A master coffee blend from the kumbakonam degree college of coffees, the taste and texture is truly memorable.
Dravidas Bistro, giving a modern feel to South-Indian cuisine. The healthy, organic cuisine is a welcome change to the complex and heavy food offered at other places.
An open kitchen and a customizable menu offer something most diners crave, variety, and lots of it.
Homely nostalgia, encompasses you, Dravidas Bistro simplifies heavy flavours into light, casual and contemporary, with a punch of awesome coffee!
