Chocolate Favourites! : Chocolate Mousse Cake!

Chocolate desserts have always been a bit of a spectacular thing..The flavors, colors and aromas are divine! Add fresh berries to the delectable chocolate dessert and you are left with a mesmerizing piece of heaven!

Meet our gorgeous looking Chocolate Mousse Cake! A double chocolate layer of cake and mousse leave you in utter astonishment of the depth of chocolate in this cake!
Topped with fresh strawberries, this cake is an absolute show-stopper!   

Heres what you'll need for this wonderful dessert!

COOK TIME :

Serves 12 (1 Hour + Cooling and refridgeration time)

INGREDIENTS:

A) FOR THE CAKE

  • 200 gms dark chocolate, coarsely chopped
  • 60 gms butter, chopped
  • 6 eggs, separated
  • 150 gms castor sugar
  • 250 gms strawberries, halved
  • 2 teaspoons, icing sugar



B) FOR THE MOUSSE

  • 400 gms dark chocolate
  • 2 teaspoons instant coffee granules
  • 1 tablespoon hot water
  • 600 ml thickened cream



KITCHEN EQUIPMENT
  • Fan Forced Oven
  • Springform Cake Pan
  • Baking paper
  • Small Saucepan
  • Electric Mixer
  • 2 Large Bowls
  • Double boiler
  • Cake Stand
  • Sieve


METHOD

A) FOR THE CAKE

  • Preheat oven to 170  . Grease a 22cm springform cake pan;line base and side with baking paper.
  • Place the chocolate and the butter in a saucepan over low heat; stir until smooth.Cool.
  • Beat eggs yolks and half a cup of castor sugar in a small bowl with an electric mixer until thick and creamy. Beat in chocolate mixture. Transfer to a large bowl.
  • Beat egg whites and remaining castor sugar in a clean large bowl with an electric mixer until soft peaks form;fold into chocolate mixture in 2 batches. Spoon mixture into springform pan.
  • Bake cake for 35 minutes. Cool in pan.

B) CHOCOLATE MOUSSE

  • Meanwhile, break chocolate into a sdouble boiler; stir over low heat until smooth.Cool
  • Dissolve coffee in hot water;Cool.
  • Beat cream in large bowl until soft peaks form.Fold in chocolate and coffee mixture till combined.
  • Pour the mousse over the cake in pan. Refridgerate for 6 hours or until firm.
  • Just before serving, top with berries and dust with sifted icing sugar.
